HOUSE BILL 1892 PASSES WITH A TWO YEAR MORATORIUM ON THE TRANS-TEXAS CORRIDOR
For Immediate Release
Wednesday, May 2, 2007
Austin – This afternoon the House voted 139-1 to concur with the Senate amendments to House Bill 1892 by Representative Wayne Smith (Baytown) relating to counties and their authority with certain transportation projects. The bill will now be sent to Governor Perry with a clear message from the Legislature that the people's will must be respected.
The bill will require a two year moratorium on all new comprehensive development agreements (CDAs), including those that would be used to construct the Trans-Texas Corridor. The only exemption is for specific projects in the North Texas area.
"I want to thank the members of the House of Representatives for passing this important legislation, and I look forward to beginning an open and public review of the transportation challenges facing Texas.
I also want to thank all my friends in the district who came and rallied on Texas Independence Day against the Trans-Texas Corridor. Further, I applaud the effort of local officials, organizations and citizens who have been very active in voicing their opposition. I will continue to work with my colleagues to ensure that HB 1892 becomes law."
