HOUSE BILL 1892 PASSES WITH A TWO YEAR MORATORIUM ON THE TRANS-TEXAS CORRIDOR
For Immediate Release
Wednesday, April 11, 2007
Austin – This past Tuesday afternoon the Legislature began a rather lengthy debate on House Bill 1892 by Representative Wayne Smith (Baytown) relating to counties and their authority with certain transportation projects. During the debate, Representative Lois Kolkhorst (Brenham) amended the bill to include a two year moratorium on the Trans-Texas Corridor (TTC). The two-year moratorium affects private equity comprehensive development agreements including prohibiting the sale of existing toll roads to private entities.
After several hours of debate and numerous amendments, HB 1892 passed with overwhelming support, 123 Yeas. The passage of this measure shows the commitment and will of the House to stop and take a look at the Trans-Texas Corridor. "In my opinion, this bill is a huge victory. I applaud the work of my colleague Representative Kolkhorst and look forward to continuing the fight against the TTC and for the protection of private property rights."
The Senate will likely here this same version of the bill in the coming weeks. "I can assure you I will continue to fight for you, the citizens of District 28 and all of Texas."
